18k Gold Filled
Gold Filled is a high-quality jewelry material in which a layer of real 18K gold is mechanically bonded to a base metal core (such as brass or steel) using heat and pressure. This gold layer is significantly thicker than standard gold plating and must make up at least 5% (1/20) of the total weight. As a result, it offers excellent durability, resists fading and tarnishing, and is generally safe for the skin.
18K Gold Vermeil
Not to be confused with regular gold plating, gold vermeil is a thick, long-lasting layer of 18k solid gold over high-quality sterling silver. We use 18k gold that is 2.5 microns thick, as required by the Federal Trade Commission to classify vermeil, layered over 925 sterling silver.
